Case studies
As part of our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism across Europe, our partner Etifor | Valuing nature has selected four exemplary destinations, each recognized for their sustainable practices.
The case studies showcase Destination Management as an approach that allows for the sustainable management of the complexity inherent in the tourism system.
In this context, we look at the certification as a useful tool that can support destinations and tourism operators in contributing to a management of the tourism phenomenon which is systemic, organised, focused and capable of guaranteeing long-lasting sustainable development.
These case studies aim at showing how the destination management approach has been an activator of innovation in destinations through the certification tool and in terms of specific Key Aspects, namely:
- KA1: Governance structure
- KA2: Management and funding
- KA3: Stakeholder engagement
- KA4: Monitoring and assessment
- KA5: Nature conservation/restoration
- KA6: Socio-cultural valorisation
The destinations, selected for their commitment to sustainable tourism, include Valsugana Lagorai in Italy, Nassfeld Lesachtal Weissensee in Austria, the city of Siena in Italy, and Colinele Transilvaniei in România.
