WeNaTour at the GSTC Symposium

GSTC Conference - Team

We are thrilled to announce that on April 23rd WeNaTour was showcased in the prestigious GSTC Academic Symposium in front of an audience specialized in sustainable tourism.

The project was presented by our partner, Etifor, highlighting its origins, the challenges it addresses, its ambitious goals and achievements, and the synergies between WeNaTour and the GSTC standard.

For WeNaTour, it was an excellent opportunity to highlight the important role of appropriately trained professionals as the key to change, to make the project known at the European level and beyond, as well as to observe that there is consensus on the fact that business as usual is no longer permissible and that tourism must be seen and treated as a complex socio-cultural phenomenon that requires new tools for destination management that also involve monitoring and assessment impacts. All key assumptions on which the project is also based.

The GSTC Academic Symposium was held conjunction with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council 2024 Global Conference, the most important event in the sustainable tourism field aiming to unite global and local tourism professionals engaged in advancing and advocating for sustainable travel and tourism.

The event is organised by The Global Sustainable Tourism Council® (GSTC), a non-governmental organisation that establishes and manages global standards for sustainable travel and tourism.

The Academic Symposium served as a collaborative platform for researchers to discuss pressing issues and share their findings on sustainable tourism.

The Symposium covered a wide range of topics, reflecting the diverse nature of the tourism system, and revealing the complex phenomenon of tourism from different perspectives as the followings:

  • new tools for measuring tourism pressure
  • park management
  • the social impact of culinary experiences
  • sustainability standards for leisure.

The phenomenon’s challenges are still open, and everyone has the opportunity and the role of playing his or her part.

Let’s make it happen!
