As part of our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism across Europe, our partner Etifor | Valuing nature has selected four exemplary tourism destinations, each recognized for their sustainable practices.
The case studies showcase Destination Management as an approach that allows for the sustainable management of the complexity inherent in the tourism system.
In this context, we look at the certification as a useful tool that can support destinations and tourism operators in contributing to a management of the tourism phenomenon which is systemic, organised, focused and capable of guaranteeing long-lasting sustainable development.
These case studies aim at showing how the destination management approach has been an activator of innovation in destinations through the certification tool and in terms of specific Key Aspects, namely:
- KA1: Governance structure
- KA2: Management and funding
- KA3: Stakeholder engagement
- KA4: Monitoring and assessment
- KA6: Socio-cultural valorisation
Each case study is presented in a factsheet format (available in different languages), offering insights into its approach to sustainable tourism destination management and practices.
